I could never find You

As I tried to define You

In my own time, on my own terms

Arrogant attempts to make You fit

Into harmonious coexistence with your rivals

Within the palace of my idols

Is it You that I hear laughing?

Surely every knee can’t be taken literally -

It’s only religious hyperbole . . . right?
