Wouldn't It Be Heavenly?

I wasn't happy with the way worship was heading in our church. It certainly didn't seem
to be heading in a heavenly direction. I arranged a meeting with the minister of music, choreography and parking lot arts (we're a small congregation and leaders are frequently asked to wear several hats). At this meeting I asked why we started singing selected stanzas of the hymns rather than focusing on the whole composition. His answer was quickly delivered. "Do the the math bro! If we sing every line of every stanza every time we sing a hymn - we'll only be able to sing our new praise chorus of the week ten or fifteen times and that's not acceptable. Let me repeat, that's not acceptable. Let me repeat, that's not acceptable. Let me repeat, that's not acceptable. Let me repeat, that's not acceptable. Let me repeat, that's not acceptable. . . "
On my way home, a quaint stone building caught my eye. The sign said "We sing the olde hymns." I parked my car and went in for a closer look. Maybe the Lord was guiding me to a new church? I'd heard that He does that (and that He does it quite often with some people). I caught a glimpse of choir robes through the dusty window. This looked promising.
As I entered it was confirmed. O brother here art thou! Gregorian chant. They do sing the olde hymns.
To the tune of "Wouldn’t It Be Loverly?" from My Fair Lady/Lerner & Lowe
(new lyrics by Marc Jonathan Haney)
All I want is a church somewhere
With songs and thanks filling up the air
New songs, old hymns, don’t care
Oh wouldn’t it be heavenly?
A church where love is the one command
First for God then our fellow man
Grace flows, to show, we understand
Oh wouldn’t it be heavenly?
A church without religious pressure
Where the need for Christ is the only measure
Folks live, as if, heaven holds their treasure
Oh yes, that would be heavenly!
A church that will not give up its sword
Or deny Jesus Christ is Lord
The Lamb of God, the Living Word
Oh yes! That would be heavenly
Heavenly, heavenly, heavenly heavenly . . .
". . . for the Father is seeking such people to worship him.
God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship
in spirit and truth." John 4:23-24
